Seen here in Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain, on 26/07/2024, this photo was taken from in front of the Catedral-Basílica de Santa María de Mallorca. Britannia had arrived here a little earlier. She had departed from Ibiza Town, Balearic Islands, Spain, in the evening of 24/07/2024, where Britannia had arrived at lunchtime. After a bob around in the Med. for the day, we arrived in Palma de Mallorca two days later. Now herein lies a story. It is 62 miles from Ibiza to Palma de Mallorca.(3 and 4 on the screen). We were scheduled to take 34 hours! This was due to the fact that the first day of two in Palma was cancelled prior to the cruise departing from Southampton. I think this was due to recently introduced cruise ship numbers in some ports. Can't understand the Palma one as a new terminal was constructed in recent years and it is where we were berthed! So the following day after Ibiza. 'we' headed for the north coast of Africa. At least it was hot, hot, hot, and a few beers were consumed. An added bonus was Alicante being added to the original itinerary.
MV Britannia was completed on 26/02/2015 by Fincantieri, Monfalcone, Italy. She was laid down on 15/05/2013, launched on 14/02/2014 and Christened by the late HRH Queen Elizabeth II, on 10/03/2015 with her maiden voyage on the 14/03/2015. She is from the Royal Class of cruise ships and is British registered in Southampton. She has a GTW of 143,730, has seventeen decks of which fourteen are passenger accessible giving a maximum passenger capacity of 3,647 and 1,398 crew. She is powered by Wärtsilä 12V46F x 2 & Wärtsilä 14V46F x 2 & propulsion electric motors - 2 x VEM Sachsenwerk GMBH and is capable of 21.9 knots and a cruising speed of around 19 knots.

This Passenger/Ro-Ro Ferry was built in 2009 by Cantieri Navali Visentini, Porto Viro, Italy, for Norfolkline, as Scottish Viking. She has a GTW 26904, and was launched on 10/12/2008. She sails under the flag of Italy, and has a capacity of 830 passengers(operating), and 200 cars. Powered by 2xMAN B&W 9L48/60B engines, she has a service speed of 28 knots. She was initially used for services between Rosyth and Zeebrugge, which Norfolkline took over from Superfast Ferries when they withdrew from the service. When MS Superfast X was sold to Veolia Transport, shortly after in July 2009 Norfolkline was bought by DFDS and later rebranded as DFDS Seaways in 2010 when Norfolkline along with DFDS Lisco and DFDS Tor Line were merged into DFDS Seaways to make one brand. DFDS operated the vessel for a short time before they withdrew her and replaced her with a freight vessel when the route became freight only. She was chartered to Scandlines between the years of 2010 and 2011, and Stena Line took over the charter of the vessel in 2011. They continued the charter under their name, and the ship retained her original Norfolkline name. She was not renamed in between charters until 2021, when she was named GNV Sealand. She is seen here in the Port of Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain, on 26/07/2024. She operates between Valencia, Spain, Palma de Mallorca, and Ibiza. Sailing under the flag of Italy, her homeport is Venice(Venizia). In the background is Grimaldi Trasmed - Ciudad de Palma - IMO: IMO 9349772, a Passenger/Ro-Ro Cargo Ship, built in 2007.
