Interior view of the Lateran Baptistery, one of the first of its kind with roots in emperor Constantine's time (early 4th century) and according to some initially a part of the bathing facilities of the imperial palace.
Refurbished in 440, the Baptistery was restored and redecorated in the early 17th century. Its octagonal shape served as a blueprint for numerous baptisteries around the world.
