Never in a million years would I have thought this sort of combination could happen and yet here we are.
Owing to a delay in the delivery of the new MAN Class locomotives by Progress Rail to the Manildra Group. PR have had to source locomotives elsewhere as a temporary measure to satisfy their contractual obligations. Because of this, several different locomotives have ended up on hire from Aurizon to Progress Rail fill in for the shortfall.
Starting on 1 November 2024, Southern Shorthaul Railroad begins the haulage of all Manildra Group trains, with the intention of using an entirely new fleet of locomotives and wagons, however all 17 ordered MAN Class are not in the country, let alone in service.
Finding its way onto the front of SSR's "grey" train, Aurizon locomotive LZ3119 leads the charge with 4904 and CLF2, working as 3242 from Goolgowi to the Allied Pinnacle mill at Maldon, six hours behind schedule.
The LZ was being used to qualify crew for future use, as well as check its efficiency in service. Unfortunately, the locomotive wasn't overly successful, running with traction motors cut out and the engine running hot, hence the doors open along the hood.

[ Gorge Week: Day 3 ]
Be Still
Canadian grain has invaded UP’s Portland Subdivision, the second of three to go east on the morning of October 13th. After shooting UP 7695 only a few minutes earlier, the lineup indicated there would be nothing for a while, so I thought I would admire the stillness of the Gorge. Despite being absent on the lineup, here is a train only 16 minutes later, completely catching me off guard. Tomorrow gives a wildly different look to a location only a train length to the west.
