This is a detail of the 'Lion' Bridge in Brugge. Many canals means ... yes, many bridges...
It is holding an emblem, the B from Bruges... my paternal grandfather was a lovely, quiet and kind man, an artist who for a living worked with leaf gold, on furniture, frames, letters, there are still some places where he 'painted' gold letters on a window, still there, he died in 1958!!!
I remember him 'guilding' this, my grandmother took me there... no, it's long been redone, with paint...
