Christian Dedeene, he was for 5 years a solo and star dancer with one of the greatest choreographers of the century, Maurice Béjart. I was fortunate to have him in our studio a couple of times, and what an experience it was, each time. Thanx Christian, for being so patient and sharing my artistic vision.

This is the result of having a professional ballet dancers in the studio, up for a challenge and something different.
How do you capture the graceful, often powerful movement and action in such a static medium?
And challenging it was, as ballet dancers need to be able to fix on a point to execute the figures correctly and land on the same spot.
This image is taken in a completely dark studio. Technically challenging though it is, the results always thrill me.
We had tremendous fun and are happy with the results.
This has been achieved by strobe flashing.
NO DIGITAL MANIPULATION. ONE SINGLE EXPOSURE, ONE NEG.
Modern photographic stroboscopy in its simplest form is a method whereby a subject in motion is lit by repeating flashes of light while the shutter of the camera remains open for a period of time long enough to capture the subject in multiple locations during the time of exposure...
not as many now seem to think; just using FLASH!
Wishing you a wonderful day and as always, thank you for visiting, Magda, (*_*)

CHRISTIAN DEDEENE, THE BALLET DANCER...
He contacted me and proposed to 'repeat' a favourite portrait, from 24 years ago.
He is a teacher/performer now in Brugge, dance school Rose de Leyn.
A few days before we embarked after a year, thanks to Covid.
Lady luck.
MMMM, the thing was that the first portrait was taken under super studio conditions, and on black and white film.
Anyway, the second portrait is the new one, taken in their dance studio, with Paul's lighting help.
It was great to meet again, like we saw each other last week.
A happy and productive afternoon.
Now, let me tell you, making a new portrait is MUCH, MUCH easier than remaking it!
It was HOT in that studio, LOL
Christian was for 5 years a solo and star dancer with one of the greatest choreographers of the last century, Maurice Béjart .
I was fortunate to have him in our studio a couple of times, and what an experience it was, each time.
After I'd seen him in action and done the 'dance photos', I asked him if he would pose for this portrait I had in my head.
I know how these people work out day after day, I admired the definition in the muscle-tones and tendons.
The result is what I had imagined, the proud profile, the wild hair, and THE DEFINITION.
I love dramatic lighting, especially for this kind of subject.
Thanks Christian, for being so patient and sharing my artistic vision.
Thank you, M, (*_*)
