Kinda neat for us Trek fans, a gentleman by the name of Nick Acosta has taken tracking scenes from the TV shows and stitched them together to simulate the old Cinerama screen format. They really show how cinematic many of the scenes could have been, had not the small screen's size gotten in the way. Also, these seem remastered, as they are much clearer than I remember them. Here's Acosta's original (second one down): cargocollective.com/nickacosta/star-trek-in-cinerama

From the original pilot for Star Trek, this is the establishing shot (I think) on the Enterprise bridge, introducing us to the crew. Kirk was yet to be in command, and so we have here Captain Christopher Pike (Jeff Hunter). I just always liked the uniforms from the pilots - much more subdued than they were later. Safer, too - no Redshirts!

Perhaps it's because I'm hesitantly excited about Star Trek: Discovery coming next month, or perhaps because I'm just in a sci-fi mood, but here's another Star Trek pic, another from the original series' first pilot, “The Cage” (1965). Jeff Hunter stars as Captain Christopher Pike, who here beams down to Talos IV with Science Officer Spock, Navigator Lt. José Tyler, Dr. Phillip Boyce, and a couple of guys that would probably die in any other episode.

I'm very partial to the two pilots - I really like the style. It wasn't as mid-Sixties technicolor as the series was, and it looked functional. The aliens, while mostly poorly conceived and poorly executed (except for the Talosians), were at least inventive.

Anyhow, here's the original pic: tos.trekcore.com/hd/albums/1x00hd/thecagehd0442.jpg

An exciting scene from the first Star Trek pilot, “The Cage” (1965). Not aired until 1986, this scene was first shown in the regular series episode “The Menagerie” (1966), as a sort of two-episode flashback.

Leonard Nimoy as Spock and Peter Duryea as Lt. José Tyler try to save Capt. Pike from the Talosians. Great episode!

UPDATE!
I finally got around to adding Donna to the pic - took long enough!

The second pilot episode to Star Trek, I think this was one of the coolest-looking episodes, and one of my favorites, as well. Lt. Commander Gary Mitchell (2001's Gary Lockwood) gains psychic powers and threatens the Enterprise.

I tried putting Donna in this pic, but have had much trouble doing so. I'll keep trying! Also, the white in my beard was left as is, after a poll from my Flickr friends decided the matter. Here's the original: tos.trekcore.com/hd/albums/1x03hd/wherenomanhasgonebefore...

Kirk has to decide to do with his old friend Lt. Commander Gary Mitchell, and Spock tries to force the issue in Star Trek's second pilot, “Where No Man Has Gone Before” (1966). Starring William Shatner (me!) as Captain Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock.
