'To add colour or leave it alone, that was the question...' back in November 2016. The answer was add colour to a print and leave the original alone. The heraldry on Micklegate Bar in York, dating from 1350-75, includes the Royal Arms of England and the arms of the City of York. They are part of a new addition of two storeys, to provide a portcullis (still in the building but forming a partition) and gatekeeper's lodging, to an earlier gateway which is thought to be on the site of Roman gate to the civilian town that grew up by the fortress of Eboracum.
