66570 passes through Trelewis as it climbs the Taff Bargoed Valley with coal empties from East Usk Junction (4C94) destined for Cwmbargoed. Behind the train to the right is the site of the former Colliery, Deep Navigation, which closed in 1991. It was one of the few profitable NCB mines in South Wales, but geological issues ultimately led to its closure. The train will return to Port Talbot with around 1500 tonnes of coal on the 6C94.

Having joined the single line branch at Ystrad Mynach, 66186 makes its way up the Taff Bargoed valley with coal empties destined for Cwmbargoed from Margam (4C94). The buildings below in the valley occupy the site of the former Taff Merthyr Colliery which closed in 1992 despite the potential for another 10 years of reserves. The train will load with around 1500 tonnes of coal and proceed to Scunthorpe (6E09).
