Thomas Nast (1840-1902), the "German-born American caricaturist and editorial cartoonist often considered to be the 'Father of the American Cartoon,'" illustrated this ticket for the Fancy Dress Ball held on March 27, 1867, by the
Arion Society of New York, "a German-American musical society."
