Honking, screeching, and clanging filled the air when I stopped by the Karns Foods grocery store in Middletown, Pa., this afternoon. One of the diesel locomotives of the Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad was hauling freight cars past the parking lot and store. It's a common occurrence for trains like this to rumble through town on their way to nearby businesses.
