Another shot from my morning at Ross Castle, Killarney. If you had "ordered" the weather, it would have been close to this...calm, a bit of cloud, nice side lighting, some dappled light on the mountain. An outstanding morning to be out at a place like this. Very calm and peaceful. 10-22mm lens on board - tripod of course. Holding my breath in case I caused any ripples.

The sun has just risen at Blenerville windmill, Tralee, County Kerry. I tried to get a nice sunburst and this one was the best I could get. 3 exposures merged in photomatix this time. Lovely place at this time of the morning. Not much traffic crossing the bridge. The tide was out as well. No filters on the lens to avoid flare. Tripod close to the wall to allow for 3 shots to be overlayed. You can see a bird perched at the very top of the sail.

An early start to visit Ross Castle, Killarney, County Kerry. It has lots of waterways around it - they were all still as glass on this morning. I used a tripod for this to take 3 bracketed exposures. I layered masked the best bits of the 3 of them into one image to cover more of the dynamic range. A lovely spot for as early morning visit. The 10-22mm lens was on the 70D with no filters or grads. Ross Castle is the ancestral home of the O'Donoghue clan. It is located on the edge of Lough Leane, in Killarney National Park, County Kerry, Ireland.

Ross Castle was built in the late 15th century. The castle was amongst the last to surrender to Oliver Cromwell's Roundheads during the Irish Confederate Wars, and was only taken when artillery was brought by boat via the River Laune

6am start (again) to catch some early morning light at Blenerville windmill, Tralee, County Kerry. Massive dynamic range so took a few bracketed shots to try to tame the highlights. Blended 3 exposures in PS to get this end result. The only problem was that the puddle wasn't big enough! Worth the early rise for a nice sky all the same. Blennerville Windmill is a tower mill in Blennerville, Co. Kerry and the tallest of its kind in Europe at 21.3 metres high. Blennerville Windmill was built by Sir Rowland Blennerhassett in 1800 whom the village of Blennerville is named after. The windmill was used for grinding corn for both the local population and for export to Britain. However by the mid-late 19th century due to the introduction of steam power, the silting of the river channel at Blennerville, the opening of the Tralee Ship Canal in 1846, and the building of Fenit Harbour in 1880; the windmill fell into ruins. It was restored in the 19th century, but quickly fell into ruins again. In 1981 Tralee Urban District Council purchased the windmill with work beginning on restoring it in June 1984

In at #292 explore. This is the River Nore at Castletown, County Laois. I had a 4 stop ND filter on for this to blur the water. A grey morning with drizzle from time to time. Was glad to get a very brief view of the sun though. Shot with me and the tripod welly high in the river. The roar of the water totally surrounds you down here. The salmon leaping time is around January so no mid air fish this time of year. Taken when I was on holidays...my wife loves the alarm going off at 6am...NOT! 10-22 lens on the 70D to get as much of the scene in as possible. 11mm and F22.0 to give a 1.3sec exposure. The Corn Mill
This Corn mill was probably built during the lifetime of John “The Miller”Roberts (1798 – 1830) who lived in Castletown.
Water from the river Nore was used to turn the large mill wheel outside the mill which was joined to other wheels inside where the various grain grinding processes were carried out.
The De La Salle Order owned the mill for a long number of years and it is now the property of Mountrath Golf Club.
