Once these Torrent ducks hatch they enter there fast turbulent streams of the New Zealand bush in areas less frequented by man.
This bird is around one month old.
I may finish posting soon as I have difficulty getting about.

My old favourite the Banded Rail,
I do not know how many hundreds of images I have taken of this bird.
Declining at an alarming rate due to mans indifference.
Im constantly amazed at local bodies indifference to birds and their habitat.
I guess when they are busy with their ego's building a short lived name for themselves performance is important.
Around BOP area boardwalks are the rage at present so every piece of wetland must have a busy traffic lane established through it along with the usual dogs & rubbish to improve birds such as these chances of survival.
I was so saddened recently watching a dead seabird cut open to try discover why it had died at an apparent early age.
Its stomach cavity was crammed full of bits of plastic..

A stunning bird saved from extinction by my old mate Don Merton and a few other Wildlifers, after a rat invasion erupted on the last Island refuge, Big south cape Island.
So their unmistakable calls still fill the bush where they remain, with life.
Best for 24 to all my friends on Flickr.....Neil Foster ( wildbird2015 )

A larger cousin of the Banded Rail and unfortunately in a humanly degraded environment displaces the smaller cousin.
Addicted to both "bling " and theft stealing anything shiny that catches its eye.
As a boy we had them as household pets .

A thief caught stripping our Kowhai's.....
Such a joy to have them around our home.
