A year ago we packed all our belongings into a wagon and moved the family north, away from the Lake District and everything the boy's knew, and landed here in the Highlands overlooking the village of Drumnadrochit on the shores of Loch Ness.

This is home now. There are considerably worse places that you can say that about!

Whilst it is true to say that we haven't got everything done this year that we had hoped to, we have made a start and laid some foundations to build on so hopefully by this time next year we will be getting someway towards our long term aims.

This time last year we were waiting for our belongings to be delivered. It snowed overnight and the removal company couldn't make it up the hill.

Exactly one year on, and it has snowed overnight again! Last winter was cold with a pretty much constant snow cover up here (although not deep at the house, but up a little higher it was getting quite serious!) so I am waiting to see what the winter of 21/22 brings us!

I love this old ruin of Daffodil Cottage in the remains of the village of Eskart which once overlooked Drumnadrochit and Urquhart Bay on Loch Ness from it's position perched on the hillside of Glen Coiltie. I photograph it regularly as I love the changes in the scenery as the year turns, and tend to do so by sending a drone over from our home on the other side of the glen as reaching the old cottages is rather a challenge!

The Bonnie Prince Charlie monument in Arivruach, Lochs on the Isle of Lewis. The inscription reads:

"On 4th May 1746 Charles Edward Stuart landed here while on the run having sailed from Scalpay. It was 18 days after the disastrous battle of Culloden where over 1200 highlanders had died. He travelled on foot from here to Arnish where he was given shelter by Lady Kiloun. He then sailed south to Eilean Lubhard with a massive price of £30,000 on his head. It is to the eternal honour of all Hebrideans that regardless of their loyalties he was not betrayed to the authorities".

This has been on my list to photograph since I first saw it, but I have always been in too much of a hurry to get somewhere else to stop. I set off on this particular occasion with enough time spare to create a panoramic if the weather decided to play nicely (this is by no means assured on the Outer Hebrides in December!). I am pretty happy with the result, the big and angry sky adds a certain depth and gravitas to the end result I think!
