St Leonard's at Birdingbury is a real surprise, at first looking more like something out of rural Bavaria with it's tiny cupola and facade. However this tiny Georgian building did get a very thorough Victorian makeover and though the nave retains it's box pews and font, the windows were gothicised, as was the entire east end which was rebuilt as a polygonal apse, not unattractive by any means with it's cheerfully painted wooden vault, though quite a bizarre contrast with the plainer earlier parts.

It won't delay a visitor for long, but is delightfully picturesque and always seems to be kept open and welcoming, and thus will always reward making a stop.
