Rugby Evangelical Free church (also known as 'The Terrace Church') stands in Railway Terrace with a handsome brick and stone facade to the main street. It was built in 1877, originally to serve Primitive Methodist worship, and remains structurally little altered since.
The interior of the main worship space is divided into two levels by the galleries that run around three sides, facing the preacher with a small apse behind (with tiny windows with Victorian stained glass high up). The galleries retain their original seating whilst on the ground floor the original pews have been replaced by more flexible seating. There is a full immersion font basin but this is kept hidden from view under the floor unless needed.
The church is usually open only for services or functions so again I am indebted to my friend Ian Leonard (Rugby's best electrician) for enabling me to see inside.
