The Hospital of St Cross was built on Rugby's southern fringe in 1884 to the designs of architect Henry Wilson and was provided with its own small chapel at the south-eastern corner in 1897-9.

The chapel is a single cell building (like the main complex built in brick with stone dressings) of four bays with a bellcote at its west end from where it is accessed from the main hospital building via a glazed timber porch.

Within it functions as a peaceful place off seclusion and privacy for those in need of it, and is adorned with stained glass in most of its windows, mainly by Powells with the exception of a more recent window nearer the door.
