Sturgeon Point was built in 1869. It's light reachs 16 miles out across Lake Huron and is still operational today.
This was about the best light we had the whole trip and it didn't last very long. It was very difficult to find a composition that didn't have a picnic table, bench or something modern in it.
I took the eagle picture across the road from here. It was really a beautiful place.

Had a wonderful time with family in Michigan. The weather did not cooperate for us rain, wind and cold most of the time. This bald eagle and some swans were the only wildlife we saw.

EXPLORE 10/26/2011 Thank you!
Built in 1876 it's name means point of little boats. The French gave it this name because the fur trappers gathered here in their little birch bark canoes every spring to trade furs.

It was late and raining when we stopped here but it is a beautiful lighthouse and in the summer you can tour it.
