Built in 1826, the lighthouse is perhaps best known for the 1838 wreck of the Forfarshire and the role of Grace Darling, the lighthouse keeper's daughter, in rescuing survivors.

Built in 1790 the tower is 85 ft tall, putting the lantern at 134 ft above sea level.
Happisburgh is the only independently run operational lighthouse in Great Britain.
