'Sans Pareil' on the wheel lathe at Willesden early in 1981 in 'Rail 150' livery with 86228 behind. 86235 'Novelty' was the other 86 so treated, both names chosen from locos that took part in the 'Rainhill Trials' in 1829.

This may well be the 1S61 06.50 Paddington to Glasgow Central which split at Carstairs for Edinburgh. The working was due into Glasgow Central at 14.38.

The loco is named 'L.S. Lowry' after the famous artist.
