This photo was taken by my neighbour, Barry Davis, in the summer of 1977.
The working is the 1S35, the 1400 King's Cross-Aberdeen which the Deltic worked to Edinburgh (not an up service from Newcastle as I initially thought - see below).
I must ask him if that is his son on the right, with the shadows of his wife and daughter also visible.
My own collection of photos has some glaring omissions, York being one of them. I went there plenty of times, but usually on my way to somewhere else and time was short or I didn't have my camera.
Anyway, it was a pleasure to scan this slide, well done Barry!

Threatening skies over London in 1980 - must be the summer!
62 indicates an Exeter line working, but this service is likely to be heading only as far as Salisbury.
