The 6K73 nuclear flasks from Crewe to Sellafield approach Eskmeals viaduct where the line crosses the River Esk which is seen here in the foreground.

All flask trains have two locomotives in the event of a failure.

The impressive cement works dwarf the loco which had brought in the empties from Pendleton.

This loco is a four cylinder compound, built in 1908 to a design by Alfred De Glehn who was born and educated in England.

The outside cylinders are high pressure and drive the middle axle, inside low pressure cylinders drive the leading axle. It spent some time at the Nene Valley Railway in the 1970s where it worked the first train following the restoration of the line.

It was seen at Didcot as part of the GWR 150 celebrations in the summer of 1983. It was returned to France in 2009.

The late running 6F78 empties return to Liverpool for another fill.

My favourite picture from a fun and memorable day out with the 'Flickr Fotters' around the Warrington area (see group shot).

All welcome - let us know if you're interested.

One of my favourites from 2013, the Sinfin - Grangemouth empty tanks.

The loaded train runs once a week and conveys aviation spirit for testing jet engines at the Rolls Royce factory in Derby.
