Arc de Triumphe, Paris, France at evening.

Please zoom in and see the amazingly details
Arc de Triumph Gigapixelized

How it was made:
The image was constructed with about 209 zoomed-in photographs with overlapping portions . To prevent differences in shade, colour and focusing, the shutter speed, aperture, focus, ISO and White balance were kept fixed in manual mode. A gigapan sticher was used to combine the photos. Their site shows photos in flash, so easily zoomable.

Arc de Triumph is one of the defining monuments of Paris, France. It honours the soldiers who fought for France, including 660 names of all the generals and wars faught. The floor of the moument contains the tomb of the unknown soldier from World War I.

On a funny note, coming from a North American winter, I waited for the evening blue colours from 6:15 pm . Little did I know that I would have to wait till 9 pm, till both the sky is slightly dark and the lights on the monument start. Getting suspicious of my constant staring at Arc de Triumph, the cops dropped by to ask about my intentions (and for searching my bags).

London's Tower Bridge taken from the North Bank of River Thames at the crack of dawn. Most tourists mistakenly call this structure as the London Bridge (which is just next to it).

Click All Sizes to see bigger resolution. Looks much better then.

Suffering from jet lag after reaching London, I ended up walking 24.4 kilometers (39,000 steps) in a single day, thanks to no transportation after midnight. Later, saw the beautiful sunrise between the pillars of London Bridge.

Incidentally, this was the 666th photo on my new camera. Still, neither did the devil appear, nor did I get attacked by the sleeping hobos.

Sorry Eiffel Tower, I had to Giga Pixelize you. A gigapixel is 1 billion pixels! or 1000 Mega pixels. To put it in context, most cameras in the market are around 8 Mega pixels.

Open the image here and zoom in :

How it was made:
The image was constructed with about 230 zoomed-in photographs with overlapping portions . To prevent differences in shade, colour and focusing, the shutter speed, aperture, focus, ISO and White balance were kept fixed in manual mode. After an unsuccessful at stitching in GIMP, the photos were combined using gigapan sticher. Their site shows photos in flash, so easily zoomable.

Although my hotel was 900 meters from the Eiffel tower, I couldn't manage to go up in my 7 day visit. After reaching Paris, I caught a bad flu. The American medicines were no match for the artillery of French bacteria. So in the 7 day period, the only real tourism I did was a 2 hour bus ride. (Resting in bed most of the time). These photos were taken while waiting for the Hop-on-Hop-Off bus.

Eiffel tower front view. Everyone takes it, so I had to take one too.

Currently trying to find which floor on the Eiffel Tower did Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker film the fight sequence in Rush Hour 3.

See the Gigapixel version here (and zoom in)->

You end up going to a Cinema, just to get lunch on a Sunday, because all the restaurants are closed.

After walking 7.32 km on a sunday to find a open restaurant in Grenoble, I ended up going to a Cinema to get coffee and popcorn for lunch (in a Monsters vs Aliens bag). Everything is closed there on Sundays. And by everything, I mean Everything. Had to put part of the popcorn in a 'Dora the Explorer' plastic bag, so that it doesn't fall off on the road.

Now that's having a meal with the Monsters!
