A folklore tells about an english ship shipwrecked by the cliffs of Fontur. Twelve shipsmen made it upp the cliff at a little cleft, called Engelskragjá/ The engelsk rifth. But on their way to the farms at Skálar or Skoruvík they collapsed by exhaustion and coldness, wet as they were. Only the ship's captain survived. The bodies of the men were found between Skoruvík and Skálar and there is a cross that says: "Here rest 11 English men."
Many shipwrecks have occurred at those cliffs. The wreck of a Norse ship with 17 persons crew in 1907 best known. Only one survived in a tiny cave a whole night and was able to climb the cliffs in the morning. The lighthouse was builded 3 years later.
Only last week there was a boat with two fishermen wreck under the cliffs on the north side of Fontur. The rescue groups were not able to get them from land or from sea. The helicopter rescue team made almost a miracle getting their man down into the boat. There was 70 m. high cliffs and the captain said he had to hold the propel over the cliffs and the edge in eye height and in this very long pendulum to get his man down to the boat rolling in the bottom of the cliff.

I like to leave Langanes with this withness of how hard it must have been to make a road/track through the roughest part of the way.

Part of a seat, and the riddle is solved
As a child I remember the mighty machine drawn by a horse to turn the whey to dry - And then changed to be drawn by the jeep, or the tractor.
Spared many persons turning the whey by rakes
