HAPPY THANKSGIVING, CANADIANS!
I haven't posted anything for a few days. Just too tired after going down the road to the local shops the other day, to buy food, and then doing the first drive out of the city in a few weeks. Unsure of how far I would get, all depending mainly on how painful my right shoulder/arm was. I surprised myself that I got as far as Kananaskis. Having missed all the beautiful fall colours because of not being able to go out, I knew that if I didn't go this day, all the golden leaves would have fallen from the trees. Maybe not the wisest thing to do just yet, but it sure worked wonders for my mental well-being : ) Normally, I would have gone a little sooner, but I still found enough colour to make the long drive worthwhile. At all times, I was only a few steps away from my car, having no desire to risk tripping and falling and doing even more damage to my body than what happened on 12 September 2022! Left home at 9:21 am and returned by 5:20 pm, after driving 360 km.
The day started off rather hazy (smoky?), but ended up being beautifully sunny and not too hot. Went the back way to Highway 40. Being Thanksgiving weekend, I wasn't sure how many people would be out there. Most of the time, there were just a few vehicles on the highway at any given moment. Approaching the Ptarmigan Cirque parking lot and area was a whole different matter. The parking lot was full and there were hundreds of parked cars lining the highway on both sides of the road. I can only imagine what the narrow hiking trail up the mountain was like, with so many eager people. So thankful that this was not my destination.
No wildlife to be seen, apart from one hawk, half a dozen Ravens and two or three suspected Canada Jays flying across the road. My outing was purely for seeing the last of the fall colour.
Returning home the same way, I called in at the Ranchers Corner for take-out Cheeseburger and fries. I always drive along one of the closest side roads and pull over to enjoy my meal. Also took another side road to take a photo or two of one of my favourite old barns. Such a beauty in black and white and so well kept. A nice way to end my sunny, colourful day.
