HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY, everyone!
Tuesday, 14 February 2023: our temperature at 11:30 am is -6°C (feels like -11°C). Sunrise was at 7:51 am and sunset is at 5:50 pm. We had a bit more snow last night.
Two days ago, on 12 February 2023, I made a longer drive, this time NE of Calgary. It was such a beautiful day and our weather forecast showed more snow coming. No luck with any Snowy Owls, but I did find a number of barns that I had seen previously, and a couple of 'new' ones.
I had heard of this old homestead, that had been used in the making of the film, "Brokeback Mountain", but had never seen it until 22 November 2019. This actual farm was used in the beautiful, though sad, movie, "Brokeback Mountain", starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. All one can see of the old house (off the right side of this photo) from the road, is the roof, unfortunately, as it is well-hidden by the surrounding dense Caragana thicket. It was somewhat 'renovated' in 2004 for use in the movie.
The only birds I saw were a couple of Ravens and maybe three or four Common Magpies. Whenever I have been out this winter, the birds seem so few and far between.
