"Frankburg is located east of High River, in the electoral division of McLeod Alberta.

Until 1937 it was predominately a Mormon settlement made up of pioneers who emigrated from a small town south of Salt Lake City named Santaquin, Utah.

It is now a ghost town but the cemetery remains." From www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2404290/frankburg-cemetery.

Adding another five photos this evening that were taken three days ago, on 31 January 2024.

On 31 January 2024, it was the first time I had been out since 28 December 2023!! About 5 weeks, which is pretty much unheard of for me. Our parking lot had to be salted two days ago, and then any snow and ice was scraped away yesterday. Looks nice and clean - ready for the next snowfall that is forecast to arrive this evening and tomorrow! Too bad they couldn't have waited till after the snow had fallen. Actually, the last few days have felt like spring, with a temperature around PLUS 11C-14C.

The drive on 31 January was all in the SE area. I was curious about the Snowy Owls, as a couple of people who mention seeing these beautiful birds had not been reporting any very recently. My daughter and I had seen six of them on 28 December 2023, but I found none on the two days I was out this week. With this warm weather, I wonder if they have flown a bit further north.

The only birds I happened to notice were about half a dozen Common Magpies that were hanging around one stretch of fence. Zoomed in from the car - the mountains are much further away in reality than was seen in a photo that I posted a couple of days ago. Also, a small flock of Gray Partridge exploded from a field, just as I was taking a photo of the muddy gravel road and scenery. Too late to try for a photo. However, just this evening, when editing my photos, I suddenly realized that there were several of the Partridge still down on the gravel road and just in the field before they flew.

A few familiar old barns, silos and sheds and an old grain elevator kept me and my camera happy for a few hours. The back roads were grim! A mix of gravel and muddy ruts. Also, the sun is GLARING and makes driving so unpleasant.
