Already October! Where did September go?
I knew that I was running out of time to catch the fall colours, so decided to finally drive SW of Calgary to Sheep River. This was my destination, followed by driving home along some favourite roads cutting from west to east. Once I reached Sheep River, I was so thankful that there was no snow anywhere. The fall colours were beautiful, though perhaps past their peak.
The Sheep River drive is through beautiful scenery, eventually arriving at Sheep Falls. This time, I didn't stop and walk to see the falls, as it was quite windy and there were other places that I wanted to get to. Unfortunately, most of my photos had to be taken through the windscreen on this drive.
No sign of any Bighorn Sheep this time. Plenty of cows, though, who are free to roam. Drivers need to be careful to drive more slowly as the cattle are often on the highway or near the very edge. They can be stubborn when it comes to moving out of the way.
From the Sheep River area, I drove eastwards till I reached a few favourite roads that are east of Highway 2. Hardly any birds to see. It was funny along one of the backroads when I spotted two people riding on their horses in a field. I pulled over and asked if I could take their photo - it just looked so peaceful. The lady laughed and said I should be looking for birds! I told her that I was finding it hard to find more than a few birds. I wonder what made her say those words. Maybe she was used to seeing birders along that stretch of road.
Both SW and SE of the city, the skies were beautiful part of the day. This made up for the lack of birds.
