I had put these five photos aside when I last deleted a few more photos from my computer. Gradually, I will add the description that I had written under a different posted photo taken on the same day.

"HAPPY THANKSGIVING, CANADIANS!

I haven't posted anything for a few days. Just too tired after going down the road to the local shops the other day, to buy food, and then doing the first drive out of the city in a few weeks. Unsure of how far I would get, all depending mainly on how painful my right shoulder/arm was. I surprised myself that I got as far as Kananaskis. Having missed all the beautiful fall colours because of not being able to go out, I knew that if I didn't go this day, all the golden leaves would have fallen from the trees. Maybe not the wisest thing to do just yet, but it sure worked wonders for my mental well-being : ) Normally, I would have gone a little sooner, but I still found enough colour to make the long drive worthwhile. At all times, I was only a few steps away from my car, having no desire to risk tripping and falling and doing even more damage to my body than what happened on 12 September 2022! Left home at 9:21 am and returned by 5:20 pm, after driving 360 km.

The day started off rather hazy (smoky?), but ended up being beautifully sunny and not too hot. Went the back way to Highway 40. Being Thanksgiving weekend, I wasn't sure how many people would be out there. Most of the time, there were just a few vehicles on the highway at any given moment. Approaching the Ptarmigan Cirque parking lot and area was a whole different matter. The parking lot was full and there were hundreds of parked cars lining the highway on both sides of the road. I can only imagine what the narrow hiking trail up the mountain was like, with so many eager people. So thankful that this was not my destination.

No wildlife to be seen, apart from one hawk, half a dozen Ravens and two or three suspected Canada Jays flying across the road. My outing was purely for seeing the last of the fall colour.

Returning home the same way, I called in at the Ranchers Corner for take-out Cheeseburger and fries. I always drive along one of the closest side roads and pull over to enjoy my meal. Also took another side road to take a photo or two of one of my favourite old barns. Such a beauty in black and white and so well kept. A nice way to end my sunny, colourful day."

Tuesday, 18 October 2022: am adding the description I wrote under another photo taken on the same drive 10 days ago.

Saturday. 22 October 2022: SNOW , and lots of it!!! There must be 7" or 8" of snow already on top of my fence, with more to come. At 10:00 am our temperature is 0°C (windchill -5°C). Sunrise was at 8:11 am and sunset is at 6:29 pm. I am SO very thankful that I don't have to go anywhere this weekend.

I am so thankful that I made myself drive SW of Calgary to Kananaskis on 8 October 2022. It was a rather hazy day, but there was enough fall colour to make the long drive enjoyable. Now, a strong wind the other day stripped the trees of their golden leaves and winter has arrived! This evening, 21 October 2022, it is raining and the forecast is for light snow overnight. At 11:15 pm. our temperature is 2C (windchill 0C). Snow is forecast for the next two days and we could see 5-10 cm of snow in all by the end of the weekend.

Amazingly, I had an appointment to get my winter tires put on this afternoon, just in time for winter's arrival. The previous two days were a last chance to get food and other items so that I wouldn't have to go out in the snow. For the first time in about six weeks, I finally went to my main grocery store. With the damage to my right shoulder/arm, clearing snow and ice off my car is going to be a real pain. Most likely, I will stay home and wait till it melts.

I am adding the description I wrote under another photo taken on the same drive on 8 October.

This old train caboose sits in a field, far from the main highway. The well-worn path through the grass tells that many people ignore the fact that this field is fenced and on private land. A couple of times, I have seen people climbing over the fence to go and get close photos. Apparently, the interior of this old caboose is totally burnt out. I wonder if it was used as the land owner's cabin in earlier days. once it was no longer used on the railway.

"A caboose is a manned North American railroad car coupled at the end of a freight train. Cabooses provide shelter for crew at the end of a train, formerly required in switching and shunting, keeping a lookout for load shifting, damage to equipment and cargo, and overheating axles.

Originally flatcars fitted with cabins or modified box cars, they later became purpose-built with projections above or to the sides of the car to allow crew to observe the train from shelter. The caboose also served as the conductor's office, and on long routes included accommodation and cooking facilities." From Wikipedia.
