These five photos were taken on 28 September 2023, when I did a drive to Kananaskis. It wasn't quite as far as I usually go, but I turned around as soon as the mountains almost completely disappeared from view. Felt as though I was being swallowed up into the white cloud/mist. Right before I decided the wisest thing to do was to head for home, I noticed the first very fine, light snow was beginning to fall, just for a few minutes. SInce then, I have seen photos of freshly snow-covered peaks.

Knowing that we have seven months of winter weather ahead of us, I managed to make myself get out for a few drives and two or three short walks during the month of September. This drive on 28 September was to the Kananaskis area of the mountains. One main highway covers the length of the area, and I always feel SO thankful that one can see the majestic mountain peaks from this road. Sadly, my hiking days are over.

The back road to Kananaskis is my favourite route to drive, despite all the gravel. Beautiful views of the distant mountains, and one of my favourite little barns, give welcome photo opportunities.

Once I got much closer to the mountains, the clouds started rolling in, eventually covering the peaks. I was surprised at how fast not only the peaks disappeared but also everywhere else. It was a slightly uncomfortable feeling, staring at a white 'wall', and I certainly didn't want to find myself stuck out there.

By the time the mountains became a more open landscape, the air cleared. This is when I spotted a spectacular red and white classic car driving the highway. Yes, I admit I did a U-turn when I saw the car turn around and, yes, I ended up stopping at Highwood House just like the car owners - partly to check if the Hummingbird feeders had been taken down for the winter, but also because I was longing to ask if I could take a photo or two of their beautiful old vehicle. A very pleasant couple, who told me to go ahead and take whatever photos I wanted. It looked beautiful against the autumn colour.

Much closer to home, on the spur of the moment, I left the highway and stopped to see and photograph two beautiful old barns that I have photographed several times before. They made a nice ending to a very enjoyable day.
