Our neighbours have four llamas and when I walk around our slough the youngest one loves to come and investigate what I'm doing. :-)

Heavy, large snowflakes almost entirely obliterate my view of the ski hill across from our home. Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Have a pleasant evening / morning and thanks for visiting.

One of the many Red-winged Blackbirds (Agelaius phoeniceus) enjoying the wetlands on Bluebird Estates, Alberta, Canada.

The Red-winged Blackbird is one of 11 species in the genus Agelaius and is included in the family Icteridae, which is made up of passerine birds found in North and South America.[2] The Red-winged Blackbird was originally described as Oriolus phoeniceus by Linnaeus in his 18th century work, Systema Naturae.[3] but was later moved with the other American blackbirds to the genus Agelaius (Vieillot, 1816.[4] The genus name is Latin derived from the Ancient Greek, agelaios, meaning "belonging to a flock". The species name, phoeniceus, is from the Latin word meaning "deep red".[5]

An exciting time as we watched the 2010 Winter Olympic Torch Relay in the small, rural town of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada. Even had a chance to hold one of the unlit Olympic Torches and have a picture taken with it :-)

In 106 days, 12,000 torchbearers will cover the 45, 000 km (which began in Greece), arriving for the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games at BC Place in Vancouver on February 12 .

In the series below, the relay runners with their torches gather before their run; the young man, Usama Nasrullah, arrives with the torch at the Wetaskiwin City Hall; he then lights the torch of the next runner, a radiant Edmonton TV personality, Carrie Doll, in front of Canadian Mounties, Mayor Don Montgomery and other dignitaries; then it is her turn to run the next leg of the relay.

Have a great weekend and thanks for visiting.
