I've just returned from nigh on a month in France and Spain and am ready to post lots of my diecast finds ;-p
This one I bought literally just before I left and didn't get the chance to catalogue or photograph it until now. The brand new Hot Wheels 1967 Lotus Type 49 had proved rather illusive for several weeks here in the UK thanks to good old fashioned hype though in typical fashion everyone has moved onto newer releases and it has become more readily available. Its not the type of vehicle I usually collect but rather than just blindly follow the hype I do genuinely really love this casting and can see why people have gone weak at the knees in its presence ;-p
"The Lotus 49 is an open wheeled formula race car campaigned by Team Lotus for the 1967 Formula One season. Designed by Maurice Philippe under Colin Chapman, the 49 was a follow up design to the previous 43, noted to be extremely unreliable. The 49 was powered by the 3.0 Ford-Cosworth DFV V8; it was the first FormulaOne car to use this engine.
The initial release is a replica of Jim Clark's Lotus 49, the white race suit was chosen as a homage to the Grand Prix series of the 1970's"
The casting itself is simple but elegant and unusually for a basic Mainline features a metal body AND baseplate giving it additional weight. Beautifully finished it also comes with a number 4 variation which I haven't found as yet but the hunt is on.
Found at a Matalan where it was literally right at the front of the pegs waiting to be snatched by me ;-p
Part of 2024 Case M.
Mint and boxed.
