Peoples Hupp & Willys Sales must have had a tough time selling new cars in 1938. Neither Hupmobile nor Willys were big sellers at that time. It's interesting to note that all of the people in this photo were wearing hats. How many people did you see today who were wearing hats? Where did all the hat shops disappear to?

Our appraisal on your present car will probably make the down payment on a New Willys, said Hayes Willys Co. They also claimed that monthly payments in many cases would be lower than used car payments. In spite of this advertising message these Willys cars of the late '30s never caught on.

"Owners Report 35 Miles Per Gallon". So it says on the back of this postcard mailed out by Granite Motor Car Co. of Quincy, MA. Willys also touted a safe Unit-Weld all-steel body, a wide 50-inch front seat, and 13-1/2 cubic-feet of luggage space. Your choices included DeLuxe or Custom models.

The cover of this mailer issued by Willys-Overland says "You are Invited to meet...". Willys had intended to introduce a new postwar passenger car, but because the Jeep was so popular after the war they decided instead to make the Jeep Station Wagon, the Jeepster, and Pickups and Panel Deliveries based on the Jeep. They did finally introduce a new passenger car, the Aero-Willys, in 1952.

Packards were a rare enough sight in a showroom in 1955, but that '55 Willys was even rarer. This dealership also sold Kaiser-Willys, Morris, MG, and Rolls-Royce. Quite a combination of franchises!
