For some reason unknown to me Monarch's only '57 convertible was in the low line Lucerne series. Big was in: "the biggest Monarch ever - 5" longer and 3" wider", with 2" more headroom. Sold by Ford-Monarch dealers.

1957 Monarchs had push-button transmission controls on the dashboard: R, D, L, and N/S (for neutral/start). Also a bar below the buttons to push for Park. All hardtops were known as Phaetons, either Sedan or Coupe.

Monarch was a Mercury with fancier trim that was sold by Ford-Monarch dealers in Canada from 1946 to 1961, with the exception of 1958 when Edsel replaced it for one year only. The Mercury equivalent to this Richelieu Sedan was the Montclair Sedan. Lincoln-Mercury dealers sold the Meteor, a similarly gussied-up Ford.

The Richelieu Coupe is shown here with Montreal's Dominion Square in the background. Monarch's lineup for '56 consisted of 3 series: Richelieu and Lucerne (3 models each), and Custom (4-dr. Sedan & Coupe only).
