Sam Seale’s memory honoured in his hometown, Dublin

A ceremony and a commemorative poster: this is the tribute paid tout the Irish musician from Nyon, Sam Seale, who passed away in 2017.

There was emotion in the air on Friday evening in the Ballyfermot Library, area of Dublin. The local community, friends of the musician as well as relatives of Sam Seale were paying a posthumous tribute to the most “from Nyon” Irish musician, who passed away in March 2017.

This is relevant in a tangible way via the hanging of a commemorative poster in what is the real cultural center of this community of 8500 people, some 7 kilometers from the center of the Irish capital city. This is where Sam Seale was born on March 1st, 1962. But the Irish singer-songwriter had then mostly lived in the Leman Lake area as from 1981 and in Nyon from 1985 to 2017.

Memorial poster imagined by his friend Francie Conway

The promoter of this memorial poster is the Irish artist Francie Conway, who met Sam Seale in Geneva in the early 80s and who is known in our area as one of the main artists of the 1984 Paleo Festival with his hit “To the Edge of time”.

“I am sure that Sam would have been amazed and proud of this recognition” said Monique Schwartz Seale, smiling and moved on the land of origin of her deceased husband. The commemorative poster from the “Nyon man” takes center stage among posters from other local artists, among which his friends from “The Beermats”, Liam Weldon and The Fury Brothers.

A replica of the poster unveiled last week in Ballyfermot is meant for Nyon says the musician’s widow. The wall to receive it must still be found.
