A Boy that lived his dreams Thanks to Donal for the Photos and the History
Lived in Ballyfermot as a kid in 97 Rossmore Avenue went to De La Salle primary and St Johns college. Played football from an early age won my first medal at 5 years of age. Joe Kelly (what a legend) signed me up for Rossmore Celtic and we won the u13 league and cup double. Cherry Orchard then came along and after 3 seasons we won the U15s double and had 5 players in the Ireland u15's squad, me as captain. In 1972 Derby County were (Premier nowadays) league champions of England and I signed for them and later on made my league debut at Spurs coming on for Charlie George. I had a shot that night that went over the bar and out of the ground. Years later I scored the best goal of my career (video below) against Spurs in the FA cup quarter final in the same goal with my dodgy left foot lol. Had a fantastic career over 25 years in the UK played over 600 senior games at all levels in the English leagues and in the NASL eventually got into coaching and managed Torquay United FC and here in Ireland with Galway United FC and Sligo Rovers FC and after spending 10 years coaching in China for Sheffield United FC I've been coaching in Galway for the last 4 years after returning to Ireland getting the UEFA Pro License qualification with bteh FAI. Having started my journey in Ballyfermot I'm proud of my roots and any kids out there who want to live the dream it's vital that you go for it but one bit of advice would be to make sure you do well at school and have something to fall back on if the dream doesn't happen.
