Thanks to Michael Coakley who introduced me to Tommy Nolan in Ballyfermot Library on the 21 October 2023. Tommy showed me two photos of St Joseph Boys Band in the 1950 / 60s. where they played their music in Church Street. Tommy first memories of growing up was when his Mother and Father lived in Kilworth Road, Drimnagh. His mother did not like the area as it was to far away from her own Mother. They soon moved from Drimnagh to Harold's Cross and were there till 1949 and then his parents got a flat in Fatima Mansions Rialto. The family emigrated to Manchester for a short time but then returned to Dublin where they settled down. Tommy joined the St Joseph Boys Band and they played in Transport Union on Clogher road and played at the opening of Our Lady of the Assumption Church Ballyfermot on March 15 1953. In Marian year 1954 at a Statue that was unveiled the statue is still there across from Broadstone Garage, and in a lot of venues around Dublin. The Uniforms they wore were Police Uniforms cut to size. Some of the boys names in the band on the bass. drum was Paddy Cahill, Tommy Nolan, Jimmy Norman, Willy Pender, Larry Daly at the back, Bobby Warranty, Frank Byrne, and the man with the hat was Mr O' Rourke the Teacher on his left was John Tindle. Tommy also went up every Sunday morning to High Street to the boys brigade. He worked in the 1960s doing lighting in the Adelphi Cinema. He met lots of famous people during his work there. He arranged the lighting for the Beatles two shows when they played in Dublin on the 7 November 1964. If anyone knows Tommy or played in the St Joseph Boys Band please let me know.
