Too bad this sailor has faded away. The photographer, Giovanni Morotti, seems to have been active from about 1855 to 1890. He was known for his photography of naval sites, mainly in construction. I imagine photographers were hired to document the building of ports and other public projects. On the back of his card he also identifies himself as a painter (pittore). My date of around 1880 is just a educated guess.
