Just an example of the elaborate backs of these 19th-Century photographs. Everything but the date.

Semi-clear cellophane protective cover for photographs. So far this is the only example I have of a printed, protective flap on a photograph. I assume they were common but were easily torn-off and lost. I even have a precise date, 1904. I think this photograph (see comments) has always been carefully conserved.

Discovered this description of Forlivesi in a fragment of a book about Luigi Pirandello.
From: "Ariel: storia d'una rivista pirandelliana" by Alfredo Barbina, Bulzoni, 1984
Forlivesi was active in the 1890's in Rome.
Wish I know exactly what "Fotografia del Macao" means. Did he visit Macao?

These six images are of the prayer book of my wife's great-grandmother, Elisabetta Petacci Gabioli Crescenzi; the little hand-written, hand-sewn booklet dates from 1900 to 1912. The last pages are used to write down the offerings made to the church after her death: "Offerings for mamma's soul." The list was kept by Evelina, her daughter.
Wonderful handwriting, the "d" is special.
