This church was a Roman temple that was converted in the 9th Century into a church. The odd look of the church is a result of a restoration done in 1634 by filling the open spaces with bricks. The original plan was that of a small temple with four columns in the facade, on a high podium, made of brick except for columns and lintel.
The temple may be the one dedicated by Herodes Atticus to Ceres and Faustina. The temple has been dated to the end of the Age of Hadrian and that of Antoninus Pius, around 138 A.D.
The building is hard to find and hard to see. It is not open to the public.
Lately the gate around it has been broken and the church has suffered recent damage.
