Millie is a young Black Kite rescued as a nestling, cared for, prepared for a return to the wild.
However, Millie seems to enjoy encounters with people even while she lives a free life.
This morning I had four visits from Millie, the Black Kite. I walked out to pick up the Broome Advertiser and she landed in front of me and flew off when I went back inside. A few minutes later I walked across Blick Drive to collect the Advertiser for a friend who is away. She landed on a branch only a couple of metres away. I went inside to get my camera. Initially no sign, then she flew at low level past me and disappeared. I waited, then she returned, landing on the top of our front gate and stayed until after I had gone. She was so relaxed she spent quite some time preening herself. It was a wonderful encounter for me.
