An impressive Perseid meteor over Brighton at 4am on the 14th August, 2022.

As you can see, I was looking in a completely different direction, and only spotted it in the corner of my eye. Once I'd quickly swung around, I could see the vapour trail still fading away, which the camera caught too.

Looking North from East Sussex.

This photograph is made from a combination of 555 photographs, each of a 30-second exposure, and so a total exposure time of 4hr 37min (spread over 9 hours 15 minutes) at ISO 800 with a Canon 40D.

As the Earth rotates, the stars appear to rise in the east and set in the west.

The light pollution from Brighton can be seen to the lower left, and the darker skies of the South Downs National Park can be seen to the right. Aircraft can also be seen flying through the shot, heading from Gatwick airport towards Europe.

The photograph was taken with a Canon 40D camera at ISO 800 and a 15mm fish-eye lens.
