I was in Ennis for a few days for a friend's wedding and despite the weather being exceptionally changeable, I decided to go out and see the sights regardless. Given the lack of any colour in this shot anyway, I decided to go for a monochrome shot and really bring out the textures in the stonework. To do that I first tonemapped the single RAW file in Photomatix Pro, then used the Channel Mixer in Aperture to convert it to monochrome, and finally used Aperture's Dodge & Burn plugin to tweak the exposure in a few places here the HDR had messed things up a little.
This is my second attempt at processing this image, you can see my first attempt here.
This shot featured on my blog as Photo of the Week 77 - Ennis Friary.

I have no idea what the Gore family did to get their crest displayed so prominently inside the remains of Ennis Friary - but I can't help but imagine money changed hands. I wonder if it's Al Gore's Gores?
This image was generated by tonemapping a single RAW file in Photomatix Pro and then converting the resulting pseudo-HDR image to monochrome.
