I took this shot from Southwold Pier and deliberately timed the shot to coincide with the period of time between dusk and full on darkness.

Stormy, heavy clouds began to move in over Southwold as the afternoon progressed and I used a 300mm lens to compress the perspective of the groynes.

Nightfall soon arrived and I managed to get some shots on and around the pier while there was still a dark shade of blue in the evening sky.

This was my favourite shot of a very enjoyable afternoon of landscape photography at Southwold. The long exposure makes the sea seem much calmer than it was in reality.

My aim with this was to try and achieve a simple shot with impact, using the colour of the boat. I had to stand around for about half an hour as I waited for the sun to shine through and illuminate the scene against a backdrop of dark, rising mist.
