This was a glorious sunrise across the Beeston Weirfields. I had gone out for a walk to help loosen myself up because of a pinched nerve in my shoulder. To come across this scene only a few hundred yards from my house was an incredible bonus. It certainly helped me forget about the pain for at least a short while.

I was rushing to get my camera and tripod set up when a walker passed by and quipped "You're going to miss it". Thankfully, I managed to sort everything out just in time and the setting sun lingered for a while as its dying embers sank below the distant bank of cloud.

This was one of the most beautiful mornings that I have witnessed along the River Trent between Beeston and Clifton. I knew that a good opportunity might arise if I could photograph the sun breaking through mist just below the treeline. I had waited a long time for this moment. The sun's rays ebbed and flowed in terms of their intensity, as banks of mist were beginning to move about with the slight rise in temperature.

Walking on a footpath across the Beeston Weirfield, I noticed a bramble that almost resembled the shape of the Wembley arch. I figured that to shoot the diffused sun through the arch of bramble might make an interesting composition. The shot came about as a result of needing a combination of exercise and rest so that my injured shoulder could recover. Therefore, I was travelling light and actually made this image handheld, which is very rare for one of my landscape shots.

This was made in a rush as the light was fading. Like many of my images, it was a snatch on the way home from work. The colour in the sky was stunning and I tried to act fast to get something. In fact, if I had set up my tripod I would have been too late, so I rested my camera on the ground, beside a puddle from a recent shower. It's far from perfect, but I hope it captures the mood of a shower having passed and the sky breaking to reveal a more favourable light.
