This was a bitterly cold day and opportunities for inspiring
landscape photography were not really presenting themselves in the way that I hoped they might. However, I thought I might be on to something when I saw how attractive, warm and welcoming the lights appeared on The Bay Hotel. A low down composition using the cobbled slipway as lead in worked quite well and I also later came to realise that the featureless sky seemed to provide greater emphasis to the warm lights of the hotel.

Haven't posted any wildlife shots for a very long time...and it's not my strongest suit. I tend to liken landscape photography to creativity and art, whereas I see wildlife photography as more like a sport. This is one of a number of goldfinches that visit my garden. I used flash, which I know is a highly contentious issue amongst wildlife photographers.

This hedgehog enjoyed visiting our garden during 2015. It was one of a number of hedgehogs to visit our garden on a regular basis. Unfortunately one of our neighbour's over-zealous use of slug pellets poisoned them, resulting in yet another sad example of how our lack of care for our environment is killing off our native fauna.

There's a good reason why this Common Toad is carrying a grumpy expression: It's because I disturbed him from his slumbers underneath what was our old rotten wooden shed. I gave him a new home in my fish pond, but he didn't seem to get any happier. In the end I came to the conclusion that that was just the way he looked.

I'm not a wildlife photographer though I was pleased with this image of a starling that I shot in my garden. I liked the way the bird is sharp and the background is out of focus, yet shows the bird within the context of the garden environment. I'm sure bird photographers would pan it though, for showing the bird on a man-made perch.
