When I began shooting digital seriously in 2010, my processing skills were terrible. By late 2011 they had improved, but not by enough for me to have processed this image competently. So I have a fair number of images in my archive that would benefit from an updated process.

This was an image that I made on a day visit to the Buttermere/Dale Head area in my old MG ZR. It was a miracle that I got there, but the head gasket managed to stay in tact until the following week (it decided to blow on the M1 near J25 on my way home from work.

This has so far been my one and only visit to Ashness Bridge and I decided to go for the classic view. Maybe next time I will be more adventurous with my choice of composition.

This is one of my re-visits back to my Lake District shoot back in 2011.

The clouds had been drifting about menacingly all afternoon and I was already on my way back down from the summit of Dale Head when the cloud cover became much thicker and threatened to engulf the remainder of any brighter light. I wanted to show that situation in this photograph and I was keen to hold the brighter light in place, yet retain some detail within the much darker shadow areas. It was important to me that the image retained a natural, as opposed to over-processed look, which is why I have processed it now, instead of six years ago, when I did not have the necessary skills to do it.

You can probably see what I was aiming at here in this image of a section of Swarkestone Bridge. I liked the way the light from the stonework was illuminating the ripples within the shadows. The crop at the top is tight because I wanted to avoid including the sky, which was top right, and was a bright source of distraction.

Another shot from my recent archives. I hadn't posted this before as I had been unable to process it to a decent standard. I still have my doubts, but I hope that the mood of the image comes across to someone looking at it with a fresh pair of eyes. You know how it is when one becomes too close and involved in a particular image!

This groyne shot is a result of coastal long exposure experimentation. Waves were continually breaking over these battered groynes at Spurn Point and the 30 second exposure rendered the scene with a ghostly atmosphere.
