One of the things I love about photography is having a good old forage in my archives. I find that I can often have a whole different perspective on an image when I revisit it years later. This image is a good example of this. The image was taken from the cliffs at Beachy Head, looking across the English Channel towards France. The sun was breaking through the patchy cloud to create this dappled effect. I deliberately excluded points of reference such as vessels and the famous lighthouse. This was so that the actual subject matter of the image became the patterned effect.

Having arrived on location early, I made an attempt to photograph Herstmonceux Castle without the distraction of people in the frame. One corner of the moat/pond revealed an attractive reflection. The light was flat and slightly misty, so I considered this image to work more effectively in monochrome.
