I took this image just over a week ago at Beeston Marina. I had my camera mounted to my tripod, so I took a range of exposures both with and without neutral density graduated filters. Strangely enough, one of the images that I took without filters gave the most pleasing and natural result. All I needed to do was some gentle post processing using the sliders in RAW and subtle use of the burning brush in Photoshop.

There won't be many years left before photos like this will be a distant memory. Of course, the phasing out of coal-fired power is met with mixed feelings for many people, but Ratcliffe Power Station near Nottingham is set to cease its current role by 2025. Environmentalists might celebrate, but I am sure there will be many local photographers who will lament its passing.

It's been many years since I last visited Frampton Marsh near my home town of Boston in Lincolnshire. In fact, I think the last time I visited was with some school mates back in the 1980s. Back then, the area in the photo was just fields, whereas this land is currently part of a managed retreat wetland conservation programme managed by the RSPB.

This images shows the very attractive North Yorkshire of Staithes during the blue hour. This was a 30 second tripod-mounted exposure taken from the classic viewpoint overlooking the village and Cowbar Nab.

Another shot of the North Yorkshire fishing village of Staithes. The reflections from the lights of the various sea front buildings were intended to be an integral part of the overall composition.
