I composed this shot on my way back from Southwold to Nottingham via the Norfolk Coast (not the quickest route but definitely the most scenic). It took me all day to get back home because I kept stumbling over compelling scenes such as this. My intention with this shot was to have the main focal point of interest in the top third of the image and the bottom section to be filled with the swaying reed beds.

I took this shot from Southwold Pier and deliberately timed the shot to coincide with the period of time between dusk and full on darkness.

Nightfall soon arrived and I managed to get some shots on and around the pier while there was still a dark shade of blue in the evening sky.

It was a pleasure to be at Southwold on this bright winter afternoon. This was my first ever visit and I found Southwold to be a town of typical English seaside character.

Stormy, heavy clouds began to move in over Southwold as the afternoon progressed and I used a 300mm lens to compress the perspective of the groynes.
