Clear January skies mean an obligatory trip to the coast. This time I met Jay Howard and Terence Lee out for a little midnight shooting. The winter Milky Way isn't as impressive as when the galactic center rotates above the horizon, but it's growing on me.

Just above the horizon you can see the constellation Orion, with Betelgeuse being the bright red star. I'm not exactly sure, but I think Betelgeuse is Orion's armpit star. Here's another fun fact: Betelgeuse is the ninth brightest star in the night sky.

The brightest "star" at top left is Jupiter.

Man, I love this beach. Have I mentioned that before?

The weather was a little moody the day I took this photo, and I had a BUNCH of water spots all over my lens. I put this image to the side for months because I didn't feel like cloning them all out.
